In general, we always recommend professional dry cleaning for our wool products.
Generally, it is advisable to air wool preferentially and to remove individual dirt stains carefully with a damp cloth. Thanks to the wool grease, our wool products like the medieval capes are quite resistant to dirt and have a water-repellent effect.
However, if you still want to wash your woolen cape yourself, please be sure to observe the following points:
Hand wash preferred
Wash by hand - not in the washing machine - in a large container (or in the bathtub) in cold water with wool detergent. Avoid temperature fluctuations as too much will cause the wool to felt. Also, do not leave the wool product in the water for more than 10 minutes.
Drying wool properly
Dry the wool by gently squeezing out the water and then rolling it up in a large dry towel. Especially our medieval wool capes are quite large and difficult to roll up - otherwise press the towel gently against the material to dry it. Then lay the wool product out on another dry towel and let it air dry. Suitable for this purpose is, for example, a clothes horse on which the towel is well spread out.
Beware of discoloration
It is possible that some color may come off the wool - especially if it is red. Therefore, do not use a pure white towel for drying. Also, as the wool product dries, it may lose some water droplets that could fall on the floor. Therefore, make sure that the floor is well protected and that the wool has been adequately blotted. Do not dry the product under direct sunlight. Also, the wool should always "lie" and not "hang".
NUBUCK LEATHER CARE
Thanks to the waxed layer, the typical patina that occurs with fat leather is formed. By wearing the boots, the leather still slightly expands and naturally adapts to the shape of the foot and ankle. Lightening at the stretching, scratching and buckling points occurs during use. This effect is characteristic (and intentional) for the type of leather used and gives it a particularly rustic touch.
To even out scratches, it is usually sufficient to circle over the leather with a dry or slightly damp cloth. The grease layer is thus rubbed in.
The leather tolerates colorless leather grease well and can be rubbed with it in case of larger color stains with a soft cloth. The additional leather grease darkens the leather somewhat and makes it particularly supple.
CARE OF SUEDE LEATHER
Suede leather falls under the collective term suede and is ideally impregnated with a spray beforehand and also in between to freshen up for longevity.
The impregnation spray protects the suede from dirt and has a water-repellent effect (but this does not make the shoe waterproof). Due to the rough surface, neither wax nor shoe polish should be used for this type of leather. Such a waterproofing spray is sold in most shoe stores.
Light dirt stains can usually be easily brushed out with a suede leather brush. For more stubborn stains, a special cleaning rubber is recommended, but it should be used with caution, otherwise you risk damaging the leather.
Wash your laundry separately by color category: white/light, dark colors, reds. Also, wool fabrics should either be taken to the dry cleaners only or washed carefully by hand in cold water (please refer to our individual care instructions for each product).
Do not wash too hot
Washing too hot will cause natural fabrics such as linen, cotton or wool to shrink. Also, for the longevity of the colors, we always recommend washing on the delicate cycle at 30° or less. By the way, you also save energy.
The gentlest way to dry laundry is to air dry it. Colored garments should not be exposed to direct sunlight, however, as the colors can fade.
Do not use a tumble dryer
You can enjoy the product longer if you do not use a tumble dryer. If you still do not want to do without the tumble dryer, then a low heat output as well as speed should be set and the garment should be removed while still half-damp. Please note that fabrics such as cotton or even linen generally shrink slightly after drying and frequent drying leads to faster wear of the garment.
Do not load the washing machine too full
If the washing machine is too fully loaded, the laundry may not get completely clean and, on top of that, may not smell good.
Use color detergent for colored clothes
For your colored or colored laundry we recommend the use of color detergent. Unlike heavy-duty detergent, it usually does not contain bleach and is therefore gentle on the colors of your laundry.
Washing and ironing inside out
Washing or ironing clothes inside out means as much as turning the clothes inside out. Thus, you protect the garments from color and fiber loss and possible damage. If you turn your garments inside out before washing and ironing, you will have brighter and more intense colors for longer.
Each garment has a sewn-in care label. There are washing symbols on it. These represent our respective care recommendation.
On our homepage you can also find a care recommendation in each item description.
For leather goods, we generally recommend to clean them with a damp cloth if there are impurities. Also, most types of leather can be well maintained with colorless grease.
